About the spider that is almost translucent and dangles from the ceiling on
a thread. With very long legs.
What is it?

Anyway I got one. I put it outside very carefully without harming it. I
don't want it in my house. It's freaky. I'm not a fan of spiders, but I
never kill them I put them outside as an alternative.

No-one?
I seem to remember that these spiders were a new thing here and I thought I
saw something about them on this group previously.. Obviously not.

Your description is not exactly helpful. How large are they - both
length of body and length of legs? "very long" is not particularly
useful to someone who hasn't seen them. And why not take photographs and
post them on a suitable website?

My camera is not working atm. I'll try to describe it better.
The body is maybe half an inch, perhaps a bit less, the legs are about one a
half inches long, perhaps a little more and it dangles from the ceiling on
one thread, using its legs all the time on the thread. It's transluscent.
I'd agree with my own ID except haven't seen any cylindical web. It's not
the first time I've had one, but they've all just dangled, however the daddy
long legs spider is a good fit, especially for my location in
Leicestershire.
I have a house with beams - I should get the Dyson extension hose up there
more ;-)
Yes, I probably should clean the beams more, but no, I wouldn't suck a
spider up into a vacuum cleaner. That's purely cruel.
I put them outside, which may not be always good for them, but good for me
as I am afraid of them.
I tried my grandfather's advice "they are more afraid of you than you are of
them"
Not true.

Might be this:
http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/daddy-long-legs-spider

but no cylindrical web evident, otherwise it fits, particularly with my
location in Leicestershire. It seems localised to Leics & Rutland.
